Whenever there is unexpressed possibility, or function not performed, there is unsatisfied desire. Desire is possibility seeking expression, or function seeking performance. You cannot live fully in body without good food, comfortable clothing, and warm shelter; and without freedom from excessive toil.

Rest and recreation are also necessary to your physical life. You cannot live fully in mind without learning, without opportunity for travel and observation, or without intellectual companionship. To live fully in mind you must have intellectual recreations, and must surround you with all the objects of art and beauty you are capable of using and appreciating.

To live fully in soul, you must have love; and love is denied expression by poverty. The highest happiness is found in bestowing of benefits on those you love; love finds the most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. You cannot fill your place as a husband, wife, father, mother or a citizen if you have nothing to give.

It is in the use of material things that you find full life for your body, develop your mind, and unfold your soul. It is therefore of supreme importance to learn, create and teach so you can make enough money to buy all that life has to offer.
